All NHL teams eventually come to a point where their ownership group needs to invest in a new arena. As fan expectations continue to evolve, team owners strive to offer the best possible experience to their supporters, including better seating, top-notch audio and video quality, and improved seat positioning.
Recently, the government of Alberta announced that it would offer $330 million to the Calgary Flames' new arena project. This project has been in the works for several years as the aging Saddledome is nearing its end of life for the Flames.
In contrast, the Oilers organization funded the Rogers Place arena entirely on their own, without any government assistance. It's curious that the Flames would receive government funding while the Oilers did not.
