Former Edmonton Oilers players Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg find themselves packing their bags to St. Louis as they recently signed offer sheets.
Although the news of their departure left Oilers enthusiasts in shock, the latest reports suggest that Oilers GM Stan Bowman was well aware of the pending offer sheets before they were even sent.
Giving all due credit to David Staples of the Edmonton Journal, Holloway made an appearance on the Hockey Sense podcast hosted by Blues' reporter Andy Strickland. And it apparently turns out that the Oilers were well aware ahead of time, that Armstrong and the Blues were going to tender offer sheets for Holloway and Broberg.

Dylan Holloway, who was clearly hurt by the way the Oilers handled the situation spoke out during the podcast, highlighting his personal feelings towards to situation.
He said: "We were trying to get a deal done. I don't think we were asking for anything crazy at all. If anything we were very upfront with Edmonton the whole time, even about the whole offer sheet. We explained, ‘Hey, this was an option for us. Can we get a deal?' And it was weird the way they handled it. I felt I had no other option but to sign the offer sheet."
Holloway reports that he feels his hand was forced to sign the offer sheet. Clearly, he wanted to remain in Edmonton, but the Oilers were navigating a tight salary cap and were unable to provide a sum hefty enough to convince Dylan to stay. Edmonton knew about the offer sheets in advance, which is why Holloway claims the situation was "weird".
This is given more credence, when you are aware of comments from Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, in a recent edition of his 32 Thoughts column. The highly respected Friedman wrote that Holloway's camp received one- and two-year offers during July, at approximately $850,000 and $1 million respectively.
GM Stan Bowman is being criticized for his approach concerning the offer sheets, but fans should understand the difficulties of a tight salary cap. At the end of the day, Holloway wanted more money, and the Oilers had no way to make it happen.
