Edmonton is becoming a top destination for UFA's

Elliotte Friedman announced on his 32 Thoughts Podcast that the city of Edmonton is becoming one of the hottest destinations in the NHL.

It's no secret that the Edmonton Oilers have undergone a major face lift since drafting hockey superstar Connor McDavid. Over the past decade, the Oilers franchise have seen their stock steadily increase, and the team has generated a flow of interest from fans across the world.

With that being said, what was once considered one of the least desirable city's to play in has now become one of the most popular destinations amongst hockey players. Here's what Elliotte Friedman had to say on the matter:

«I heard from some agents who told me there were players who took Edmonton off their no-trade list. They had Edmonton there the year before but they said, �You can take Edmonton off.'

"We can talk about the weather, we can talk about the taxes, we can talk about the attention, the number one thing is still, �Where do think I can win?' Any player you want, that's the number one thing. And players right now think they can win in Edmonton.»

This is great news for Oilers fans as their club continues to improve while subsequently garnering further interest from elite UFA's. The Oilers had a glorious Stanley Cup run last season, getting all the way to game 7 before being ousted by the Florida Panthers. Nonetheless, Edmonton is now the place where players want to be. Edmonton Journal's David Staples had this to say about Friedman's thoughts:

An interesting tidbit there from Friedman, but not unexpected. In fact, it would have been odd for more players not to be open to Edmonton, given the opportunity to win, the first-class arena, dressing room, practice rink and team facilities, the way the team treats the players, and the passion of the Edmonton fans.
