Dobber prospects describes Podkolzin as an abrasive, two-way winger with tantalizing offensive upside. A thorn in the side of every opponent. Coming into training camp, Podkolzin has the opportunity of a lifetime to cement himself in a bottom 6 role with the Oilers.
Edmonton acquired forward Vasily Podkolzin from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for a 2025 fourth-round draft pick that was originally acquired from Ottawa. Hockey enthusiasts are calling the Podkolzin acquisition a "home run" as the team sacrificed very little to get their hands on a former 2019 10th over pick.
According to Sportsnet's Mark Spector, The Canucks obviously felt he wasn't going to make their NHL team this season, so instead of losing him on waivers for nothing, they cashed out, accepting a fourth-round pick from Edmonton for a kid that has the tools to perhaps come back and haunt them.
Jack Micheals recently posted on X with a teaser of the Oilers potential starting lineup, and Podkolzin finds himself on the 4th line with Derek Ryan and Corey Perry.
Oilers fans will get a great idea what Podkolzin has to offer during the highly anticipated NHL pre-season.
