Jay Woodcroft is being questioned for joining John Tortorella
It was announced yesterday that former Oilers head coach Jay Woodcroft has teamed up with John Tortorella as an "observer"
According to Hockey Feed, On Friday, insider Frank Seravalli of Daily Face-Off reports that Woodcroft is spending the next few days in Philadelphia as an invited guest of John Tortorella to the Flyers' training camp.
While this certainly shows how dedicated Woodcroft is to his craft and his career in the NHL, fans are wondering if the former Oilers' bench boss is picking the best mentor. However, Tortorella, despite the many controversies on his attitude and coaching styles, has been around for quite some time in the NHL.
After the Oilers got off to their horrendous 3-9-1 start to the 2023-24 season, Woodcroft was swiftly dismissed by the Oilers and brought in Kris Knoblauch in his stead.
But the nature of Jay Woodcroft teaming up with Tortorella has the league scratching their heads. John Tortorella is arguably one of the more controversial head coaches in the league. Known for his spastic outbursts and questionable conduct, Woodcroft is quite the opposite.
Woodcroft is recognized for his gentle temperment, his calm demenour, and his gentle approach to coaching. Many fans around the league are calling Jay "too soft" to even step near the Flyers organization.
Despite the scrutiny Jay is taking, I commend him for taking every opportunity he can to make his way back into an NHL coaching position. Even if that means putting up with the fiery Tortorella.
