The Edmonton Oilers have now become the top destinations for UFA's. According to sources, Friedman reported that «Edmonton is coming off the list of places people don't wanna go.»
With that being said, the Oilers are now in a position where help is needed on the blue-line. With the recent departure of Cody Ceci, the Oilers look to find a key asset that could help bolster their defensive core. As per Elliotte Friedman, Kevin Shattenkirk has expressed interest in joining the Oilers.
After spending the 2023-24 campaign with the Boston Bruins, Shattenkirk remains an unrestricted free agent. The offensive defenceman netted six goals and 24 points over 61 games last season.
Kevin Shattenkirk is a proven defender with tons of veteran experience under his belt. He's coming off a respectable season with the Bruins, but is ultimately looking for a new city to call home.
Drafted 14th overall by the Colorado Avalanche in 2007, Shattenkirk has notched a total 952 NHL games. The Oilers have plenty of leadership already, but having Shattenkirk's presence on the ice would only benefit the overall strength of their defensive core.
