The 28-year-old will be the league's highest-paid player once the contract kicks in next summer, taking over ahead of Toronto Maple Leafs centre Auston Matthews, who carries an AAV of $13.25 million on his four-year deal.
In a recent interview with Oilers insider Jason Gregor, Leon was asked about McDavid's future with the club and provided fans with some insight.
As far as McDavid re-signing with the club, I don't think fans have very much to concerned about. Leon Draisiatl will ultimately end up being the catalyst for McDavids return to Edmonton. Realistically, where else would McDavid go to chase success?
The duo have already made it to game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final together, in addition to both players winning Hart Trophies in Edmonton. I think its safe to say McDavid isnt going anywhere in 2025-2026.
