As per Oilers Daily, as training camp begun, the Oilers brought in the 34 year old veteran scorer despite the fact that he may not be better than any other depth forward. At a press conference yesterday, Stan Bowman's comments seemed to indicate he may be here mostly to create competition in training camp.
Mike Hoffman has been off to a strong start on his PTO, registering points in both games so far for the Oilers. Yesterday against the Flames, professional try-out winger Mike Hoffman got the Blue & Orange on the board with a power-play goal at 7:55 of the opening period to put them up 1-0, but the Flames scored 6 unanswered goals right after.
During post game game media availability, Hoffman spoke to his time in Edmonton so far.
With Evander Kane being sidelined for the next 4-6 months, Hoffman is making an increasingly strong case for himself to make the team. Even if the Oilers were to sign him to a two-way contract, his expertise would be a valuable asset for the Condors, with the potential opportunity for NHL action when called upon.
