The announcement was made official by Oilers insider Jim Matheson via X (formally known as twitter) about an hour ago.
According to Liam McCormick from Oilers Daily, Now 34 years old, Hoffman was drafted in the fifth round by the Ottawa Senators in 2009. He's gone on to play 745 career games with the Senators, Florida Panthers, St-Louis Blues, Montreal Canadiens , and San Jose Sharks. Hoffman had some great offensive seasons with Ottawa and Florida, reaching a career high of 36 goals, but has seriously tailed off in the last four years. In 66 games with the Sharks last year, Hoffman only scored 10 goals and 23 points.
The Oilers are currently stacked with prospects poised to make the team regarding Raphael Lavoie and Matthew Savoie. With that being said, roster positions wont be handed out easily as Mike Hoffman has just made things very interesting.
Mike Hoffman now joins Travis Dermott as the PTO candidates fighting for a spot on the team.
