Accoding to the NHL, The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed captain Sidney Crosby to a two-year contract extension, it was announced today by President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kyle Dubas.
The contract runs through the 2026-27 season and carries an average annual value of $8.7 million.
Although the number is quite large, Crosby has always been known to take team friendly deals. Realistically, Crosby's new contract could have easily been $10+ million, but has scarified a larger paycheque for the betterment of his team.
In a recent interview, Crosby was asked he chooses why he chooses to sacrifice larger contracts, and his answer was incredible.
Its clear that Sidney Crosby is the ultimate team guy by focusing on winning while bearing in mind the health of his team. Rather than putting management in a tough spot, he unselfishly takes a smaller sum to keep the core of the Penguins intact.
