The game which held some much excitement for new hockey fans in Utah went off to a rough start. Already trailing 1-0 to the Blues, the energy in the arena completely deflated as Utah scored their first ever franchise goal...in their own net.
According to Sportsnet, St. Louis was up 1-0 early in the second period when Utah pulled its goalie for an extra attacker during a delayed penalty call. That's when disaster struck, as Utah winger Dylan Guenther lost control of the puck at the point and couldn't catch up to it in time as it slid down the ice and into the team's empty net.
Edmonton native Dylan Guenther was also able to redeem himself, scoring the game winner as Utah HC clawed their way back into their first lead of the game. Utah went on to win their inaugural preseason game 5-3, but one can't help to think that scoring on their own net as the team's first ever recorded goal is a bad omen.
Former Oilers Kailer Yamamoto also has a golden opportunity with Utah HC, he's currently signed on a PTO and will be looking to cement his role on the team.
