The Edmonton Oilers kicked off their NHL preseason in style - edging out the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 in overtime.
Although the Oilers elite players didn't dress for the occasion, hockey fans got a great glimpse of the future of the team.
Vasily Podkolzin, an Oilers prospect acquired from the Vancouver Canucks in a offseason trade is making big strides to crack the starting roster. When the game was tied 2-2 in OT, Vasily Podkolzin made an impressive physical play in the Oilers zone, taking the Jets player out, and setting Cam Dineen up a for beautiful 2-on-1 to win the game for the Oil.
According to Liam McCormick from Oilers Daily, It's a fantastic and gritty play from Podkolzin, and exactly the kind of play the Oilers were hoping to see from him. The Oilers acquired him for just a fourth round draft pick from the Canucks because he's scored only 4 goals in the last two seasons. If he can keep up this physical play and add some goals too, some Oilers analysts think he could be the next Klim Kostin.
