With that being said, the media has given their projections on when Evander Kane will be cleared to return to the Oilers line up. According to Athlon Sports Antonio Losada, the time line for Kane's return will be around Christmas.
"Evander Kane is scheduled for surgery in the next '10 days or so' to repair damage from the sports hernia he carried through last season, I am told," Spector reported on X on Friday, September 13. "Post-surgery prognosis should shed light on the recovery period, and of course, how Oilers will approach their salary cap."
Kane, who played in 77 regular-season games last season, is expected to miss anywhere from six to 12 weeks, depending on how his recovery progresses, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
"Approximately 90% of surgeries, both open and laparoscopic, to fix sports hernias (athletic pubalgia) are considered successful," the clinic wrote on its website. "With post-surgery physical therapy and rehabilitation, people with a sports hernia can usually fully return to their sport or activities between six and 12 weeks."
As per Losada, If the recovery timeline follows the average of similar injuries, Kane could return by late October or mid-December, missing around 20 to 25 games.
