Last year, six-year-old Ben Stelter touched the hearts of many, not just in Alberta, but across various NHL teams and their fan bases. His brave fight against glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, raised awareness of the disease.
Stelter began his battle before his fifth birthday and became a regular at the Oilers' playoff games last year, attending 10 games, all of which resulted in victories. During this time, numerous Oilers players and management surrounded themselves with Stelter, offering him courage and well wishes to help him in his fight against the disease.
Sadly, Stelter lost his battle and passed away on August 10th, 2022. This season, the Oilers have organized a 50/50 draw to raise funds for the fight against cancer, and the Ben Stelter Fund was also established to support children fighting cancer and raise funds for research.
