As the NHL trade deadline quickly approaches on March 3rd, Edmonton Oilers' General Manager Ken Holland has been relatively quiet thus far. While the team has been rumored to be interested in acquiring Jakob Chychrun, Holland's main focus currently appears to be on acquiring a defenseman from the Nashville Predators.
TSN's Darren Dreger reported that the Oilers and Predators are in discussions about veteran defenseman Mattias Ekholm. While Ekholm has three years remaining on his contract with a $6.25M cap hit, he is known for his defensive prowess and ability to contribute offensively when needed. Many Oilers fans are comparing him to Oscar Klefbom, a familiar name to the team.
However, Ekholm has been dealing with some injuries over the past few seasons, which may make him a risky acquisition for the Oilers. Nevertheless, Holland seems to be actively pursuing the possibility of bringing Ekholm to Edmonton. Other teams, such as the Los Angeles Kings, have also been linked to Ekholm.
