Two of the Edmonton Oilers' brightest stars, Leon Draisaitl and Evan Bouchard.

Are reportedly considering taking pay cuts to stay with the team, potentially shaping a new era for the franchise.
According to Oilers insider Bob Stauffer, Leon Draisaitl, eligible for contract negotiations after this season, might settle for a $12.5M annual salary, a noticeable dip from the speculated $14M. Similarly, Evan Bouchard could secure his future with the team for $8M yearly, despite the open market possibly offering more.
Stauffer highlights the long-term benefits for the Oilers if they manage to sign these deals. Over an 8-year span, paying Draisaitl $12.5M would accumulate more value than a higher yearly rate over a shorter period in free agency. For Bouchard, locking in an $8M deal represents a significant bargain, given his rising stature in the league.
The financial dynamics are even more favorable considering the competitive environment. NHL insider Frank Seravalli pointed out the unique bond between Draisaitl and Connor McDavid, enhancing the likelihood of Draisaitl's stay in Edmonton. He stressed the duo's synergy, noting,
"I don't really understand the hysteria. I've always viewed these two players as a package deal. There's only one place that Leon Draisaitl can play with the best player on planet earth. By the way, they also happen to be best friends."
As the Oilers gear up for the Stanley Cup Final, the focus shifts entirely to the ice, where these players have a chance to cement their legacy not just in record books, but in the hearts of Edmonton fans. Their decisions in the coming weeks could redefine their careers and the future of the Oilers.
