In the NHL playoffs, physicality and pressure tend to intensify with each passing game, leading teams to resort to harder hits and even dangerous plays to gain an advantage over their opponents. Unfortunately, this has been the case in this year's playoffs, with several players facing discipline as a result of such plays.
While some might argue that such plays are typical of playoff hockey, this kind of hit is simply unacceptable. Bouchard was going for the puck, and less than two seconds into his skate, he was blindsided. Such hits can result in serious neck and head injuries that are entirely avoidable.
Kempe is a vital contributor to the Kings, and his suspension for a needless, avoidable play would be disastrous for his team.
