Wayne Gretzky's legacy in the NHL is well-established, with many considering him the greatest player to ever lace up a pair of skates. One of the key reasons for this is the many records he holds, several of which are widely regarded as unbreakable. So when another player manages to surpass one of Gretzky's records, it's always a big deal.
On Saturday night, Connor McDavid managed to surpass one of Gretzky's records, cementing his own place in hockey history.
During a game against the Winnipeg Jets, McDavid recorded his 58th powerplay point of the regular season, breaking Gretzky's previous record. McDavid's contribution helped his teammate Leon Draisaitl earn a hat trick in the process. This feat is particularly impressive considering Gretzky's record had stood for over 30 years, and McDavid managed to achieve it in just 52 games.
