The Los Angeles Kings have found themselves embroiled in an unfortunate scandal due to the actions of some of their fans. Multiple fans have reportedly harassed, cursed at, and even spat on a 9-year-old cancer survivor named Cecily Eklund. As a result of these incidents, the behavior of these fans appears to be becoming increasingly hateful and aggressive over time.
One Los Angeles Kings fan, who goes by the name "Todd_MemeClellan" on Instagram, is even encouraging others to engage in assaults on Edmonton Oilers fans during Game 6. While this type of behavior may seem edgy or provocative to some, it is truly sad that playoff hockey has come to this point, from fights in Florida to assaults on young children.
It's important for NHL fans to do better and hold each other accountable for their actions, both online and offline. It's not fair for innocent fans, especially children, to be subjected to such abusive and potentially dangerous behavior.
