It's no secret by now that Evander Kane underwent a huge surgery to repair a sports hernia and multiple torn muscles. Jim Matheson also broke the internet yesterday, reporting that Kane will be out 4-6 months and won't be available until the playoffs.
Now, Oilers GM Stan Bowman has lots to think about over the next few weeks. Pending an official LTIR announcement, the Oilers will have an extra $5 MM dollars in free cap space to work with.
There has been lots of discussion circulating in the trade rumour mill concerning Evander Kane. Kane has a "modified" no movement clause set to activate on March 1st - and this has Oilers enthusiasts somewhat concerned. Now, fans can sleep better at night as head coach Kris Knoblauch just confirmed Evander Kane will be staying in Oil Country.
As per the hockey news, The Oilers are absolutely not looking to trade Kane and are eager to have him back for the playoffs.
This is great news for Oilers fans. Knoblauch recognizes how valuable Kane is for the team come playoff time, and the Oilers will be holding onto him through thick and thin.
