Wayne Gretzky, the NHL's all-time leading scorer with 894 goals, still holds the record despite Washington Capitals superstar Alexander Ovechkin being just 72 goals behind him. Gretzky recently criticized another Capitals forward, Evgeny Kuznetsov, for his slow shootout style, suggesting that a shot clock should be implemented to time the player's attempts.
While there is no official rule on how fast players can skate during the shootout, Gretzky argues that it detracts from the realism of the game. Despite this, Kuznetsov boasts an impressive 83.3% success rate in shootouts, ranking second in the NHL.
