The NHL introduced a salary cap at $82,500,000 for this season. The league has projected an increase of at least $1,000,000 for the following season. However, it has been reported that around 15 teams will be unable to spend up to the new cap limit. These teams will face a reduced operating level for next season due to performance bonuses. With some facing as large at $4.5m cap penalties, and the Edmonton Oilers are on the list.

It is hoped that the NHL will increase the salary cap for next season to provide some relief for teams, including the Edmonton Oilers. Below is a list of the teams affected by the cap limit for the upcoming season.

Boston Bruins
$4,500,000

Philadelphia Flyers
$1,187,500

Montreal Canadiens

Edmonton Oilers
$850,000

Colorado Avalanche

New York Rangers
$610,891

Carolina Hurricanes
$450,000

Seattle Kraken
$129,910

San Jose Sharks
$25,000

St. Louis Blues

Hopefully Bettman can do what is right and raise the salary cap next season.
