Petr Klima, a former NHL player, is recognized for being the first player to defect from the Czech Republic (now Czechia). He had a notable career in the NHL, having played for five different teams: the Detroit Red Wings, Edmonton Oilers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Los Angeles Kings, and Pittsburgh Penguins.

Klima scored 313 goals and logged 260 assists in a career that spanned from 1985-99, starting with the Red Wings before continuing on for the Oilers, Lightning, Kings, and Penguins.

Unfortunately, Klima passed away in his hometown of Chomutov, Czechia, as confirmed by the Czech Ice Hockey Federation on May 5th.

Klima made history when he scored the OT goal in the first game of the 1990 Stanley Cup Finals, ultimately leading the Oilers to win the Cup in five games.

In honor of the late Oilers alum, the team has decided to pay tribute to him with a helmet sticker.
