Centre James Hamblin has been wearing his new No. 52 on the back of his helmet - a number change made by the 25-year-old to match the age of his mother Gina, who passed away from cancer on Sept 5, 2017. This season, Hamblin announces he will be changing his jersey number from 57, to 52.
Oilers enthusiasts will remember the night Hamblin scored his first ever NHL goal on November 18th 2023. After sniping a beautiful short side goal, he celebrated by reaching his hand to the sky as a tribute to his mother, Gina.
Hamblin will be looking to make an impact for the Oilers ahead of the 2024-25 season. He suited up for 31 NHL games last year and has his eyes set on increasing those numbers. With his mothers honour residing on the back of his jersey, Hamblin will be playing with some added spark this season.
