Edmonton Oilers Forward Will be Out The Door This Summer
There is much excitement thoughout Oil Country as the Edmonton Oilers embark on another edition of the playoffs. After both of their superstars, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl had eye-popping seasons in terms of stats with Ryan Nugent Hopkins, who had the best year of his career, there is much to be optimistic about.
However, this summer, the Oilers will face many decisions to do as numerous forwards and one defenseman's contracts are coming up for renewal. The team will decide on Derek Ryan, Mattias Janmark, Devin Shore, Ryan McLeod, Klim Kostin, and Nick Bjugstad.
There is also the matter of Evan Bouchard's contract. He is an RFA this off-season.
According to CapFriendly, four forwards mentioned are unrestricted free agents, and four players represent most of their bottom 6. I feel that they would be looked to re-sign.
The Oilers, currently only have $8.7 million in cap space going into next season and numerous players need to be retained. A player such as Mattias Janmark could be lost to free agency.
Janmark played 66 games and scored ten goals and 15 assists for 25 points. He was a + 9 and had thirty penalty minutes. He currently holds a $1.25 million cap hit, and with Dylan Holloway looking for a full season next year and there's a good chance that he will be Janmark's replacement.
